I remember because it’s the rate at which the system asks for (or gets, practically speaking it doesn’t matter for this analogy if it’s asking or being told) updates about the mouse/pointer position from the pointing device (mouse, touchscreen, whathaveyou). Like polling a voter for their opinion.
