For anyone still unsure, it is time to purchase weapons and start training. I don’t care what episode of Real Housewives of Whatever is on this week. It’s time to arm up and accept the reality that you may actually need to take up arms against your government if things continue on the track we’re on. You don’t want to be caught behind the curve on something like this.

Sure. That 1911 will sure help against that V-22 dumping Marines on your front lawn.

While I have my own comments to the contrary elsewhere, I’m also in agreement that everyone should arm, which is also contrary to me 8 months ago. The military aren’t cyborgs and hopefully wouldn’t kill their own people, other countries would step up if our country truly tried to kill us, and if we dropped a nuke on ourselves, everyone’s dead across the planet anyway.

The numbers don’t look good, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try to live and be free, if we can’t escape. Even escape isn’t an end, per se, if the evil spreads, it will eventually be everywhere, and no nation will be safe. Might as well destroy the cancer before we need chemo.

Marines would get wrecked in a long term occupation on us soil. It is just completely counter to their skill set.

The US lost in both Vietnam and Afghanistan because occupation is hard. There isn’t an army on the planet that can even come close to taking on the US military in open combat, but insurgencies are a completely different animal.

Social media and AI mass surveillance might make a difference, but I kinda doubt it.

I don’t think this is where we are headed, but it wouldn’t be an automatic win for the military. Unfortunately, the people who end up in charge after an uprising usually end up being worse than the people they replace.

They may not be able to occupy an entire city (without bombing it to the ground) but when they come knocking at your door, if you insurge you’re likely dead.

Thus my note about “social media and AI mass surveillance”. What makes insurgency so effective is the enemy of the occupier could be anyone.

Cool that will work great in new York city… I am sure they will be able to kickdown all the doors in an orderly manner.

You Americans always skip to shootouts for some reason. You went from “I don’t have stamps at home so I am skipping voting this decade” to fantasising about shootouts with police real fucking quick, skipping millions way more useful and way more non-community-destructing ways to resist, as if resistance isn’t the point, but dying “glorious” death is.

“Skip to” isn’t quite fair, because the million things that can be done need to be done by tens of millions of people, and not everybody has those opportunities. So for some, “Guess I’ll get a gun while I still can,” is just the next thing they can do after voting and protesting and calling and writing and donating and speaking, because we’ve been taught for a long time that that’s how these things go and the best defense is being armed.

And even beyond that, saying “You Americans” as though we’re all a like-minded group is as silly as assuming that everyone is from the US.

It’s just the Lemmy keyboard warriors. Actual go-outdoors Americans are busy either: 1. fighting fascism without firearms, or 2. going about their lives and pretending fascism won’t come for them or people they care about.

I’m not American, but I feel like I would rather go out in a blaze of glory, as it were, than be sent off to the queer prison biblical re-education camps that don’t seem to be very far away.
