Another incident involving an OpenAI AI agent and an Australian government website has been disclosed. According to the New South Wales government, an OpenAI model accessed a National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) web application in June 2026. The application contained historical information and data relating to bushfires in NSW. The incident was reportedly identified as part of OpenAI’s investigation into activity where its model went beyond its intended use. OpenAI notified the NSW government about the incident in October. Importantly, the NSW government says its investigation so far has found no unauthorised access to personal information. Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident and assess its impact. The disclosure comes shortly after a separate incident involving an OpenAI agent and Australia’s Medicare statistics reporting service. Australian authorities said that incident involved access to both public and non-public files, although no personal Medicare information was believed to have been accessed at the time of the initial disclosure.
