Linus Tech Tips will pause uploading new content for one week after it faced allegations of inaccurate product reviews and sexual harassment in the workplace this week.
I’m just waiting to see what comes out from this “stop” they’re having. Nothing is perfect, and mistakes are constantly made. And they’re right, these issues are probably “growth pains”, but sexual harassment can’t be considered “growth pains” and it’s a very serious issue. Sadly most women I know has suffered any sexual harassment in their jobs, including my own girlfriend, so I hope they actually run an independent investigation and find what actually happened.
Feel sorry for the new CEO, which barely joined the company and already has to deal with a crisis of this size, but the fact Linus decided to step down this year shows he knows stuff isn’t going well and that he’s unable to handle such a large company.
My guess is that Torren is actually the guy who told ops to take down the forum when Linux posted that dumb rant. And most likely it was him who stood up to be the grown up in the room and ordered a stop to production to assess the video production pipeline. I would even bet that it was him who decided that an external third party should conduct the sexual harassment investigation.
I guess that because based on what I saw in the past of Linux, my prediction is he would’ve doubled down about his rant in another rant. Say he wouldn’t talk about it but then go to the WAN podcast and talk about it anyways, without plan nor script. Ignore the problems and carry-on business as usual. And if after all Madison still published her allegations, would’ve made another long bad taste apology video, ordered an internal investigation conducted by his own HR, lead by Yvonne. That in 48h or less would’ve found that LMG did nothing wrong.
Linux and LMG as a whole, are in the business of verisimilitude. It looks like they know tech, it looks like they’re entertaining, it looks like they know what to do, it looks like they regret their mistakes, it looks like they are apologizing for their errors, it looks like they’re going to take steps to change. But upon close inspection, none of that holds-up any deep scrutiny. They fake most things, why wouldn’t they fake these things. So, any actual real measures I will credit to the CEO. As he is the only one who wasn’t raised in their faux techy “trust me bro” culture.
That’s all very possible and probable. I don’t lay all the blame on their shoulders but seemingly he was fine with the environment till this all came out. Guess we won’t really ever know for sure since any changes that are made now are only being made because of this shit storm.
The fact he stepped down as the CEO and hired some people with experience in the sector shows he wasn’t very comfortable with the environment and clearly understands he was doing a bad job.
The only thing wrong here is that they should’ve done sooner, but again, hiring trustable people isn’t really that easy. A media company like LMG isn’t a factory.
Feeling bad for a CEO lol. He bought a company and is now making money off of the backs of laborers, just because he is now (potentially) at risk of becoming a worker again doesn’t make me feel bad for him. Feel bad for the laborers who are victims of a toxic work culture and pressures to perform to the standard of the old CEO (who still holds most of the power, by the way.) And as someone else said, if the CEO had a problem with the company, he maybe shouldn’t have bought the company in the first place. You’ll never get me to ‘feel sorry’ for the new CEO, lol.

New CEO was shadowing for the last 6 months to “make sure they were a good fit”.
Doesn’t seem to be the savior everyone expects.

I’d contend it sounds exactly like a factory sweat shop even if the product they’re producing is for YouTube.

He was hired to do the job, he didn’t buy shit
Linus and Yvonne still own LMG. Terren is just running the company now.
I think you might not understand what a CEO is.
