Now that you mentioned it, I think I’ve also started using social media less and less because of the extreme extremism that is going about. If you have a opinion that is not in one extreme or the other, you’ll get a bollocking from all sides.

Luckily I found a nice IRC network with nice people who are able to discuss things. Been spending my days there instead of doomscrolling Lemmy or reddit.

At times I’m starting to feel like there’s some sort of AI-derangement syndrome starting to take a hold of people. Some dude proposed a AI-dekstop thing (as a joke or a provocation, I feel like), everyone reacted to that proposal with a “what? lol, no.” then some media reports “KDE wants to turn into a AI-desktop!”, someone posts that to Lemmy (not this thread, a earlier one from a few days ago) and people lose their fucking minds, start talking about dropping KDE, going to FreeBSD and other silliness. Then for a few days these articles keep dropping, people keep getting upset.

Meanwhile, what is the official KDE stance? Seems to be pretty reasonable to me. I don’t know if the media needs to be less clickbaity and not pick up any stupid proposal by a random person, or should the people reading the media do a little it of more digging than just reacting to the headline. Probably a bit of both. But this whole thing is getting seriously silly. At this point you cant really discuss AI in any meaningful manner, at least not on Lemmy, because of the knee jerk reactions and extreme opinions.

Whats even more sad is that I feel like I need to add a disclaimer that I am not pro-AI, even though I don’t think I voiced an opinion on it, in the main part of my stupid rant. I feel like I need to add it, because if I don’t some people will just ignore what I’m saying and start going on at me about how AI bad and I should feel bad. Or something.

What benefits could you reap from having your fridge connected to the internet? I’m seriously asking because the thought never occurred to me, but then again, I live in a tiny apartment, I can walk like 8 steps and I’m opening the fridge door. Maybe other people have bigger houses and takes half a day to get to the thing.

Of course not. I didn’t mean to say that would solve the issue completely. Theres plenty of other reasons why having a phone as a server is not the best idea, the battery is just the most flammable reason.

I saw one post where a guy was using a phone as a torrent share server thing. They had an app that cycled the battery between 10% and 80%. Setting that sort of thing up would take care of the battery issue.

I think most of the pictures of him “using” a computer are very much staged and not his actual setup. But they probably have that stupid setup because he doesn’t have a setup because he never uses one lol

Based on the rumors about putin and his paranoia, I’d assume that computer is not connected to the internet lol

There would have to be so many exceptions, that its just easier to make separate deals.

Like, take just cars, trucks and trucking, the EU and Canada regulations, requirements and laws are different enough that Canada would have to do some major changes with those alone and it would cost a whole bunch of moneys. Or they’d have to make an exception rule for that.

Stuff like weight, lengths, headlights, headlight heights, truck driver work limits, vehicle/equipment certification process etc would need to be changed. Or given exceptions.

One of those cases where a old law was never over turned.

Read more carefully, I said they are spending tens or hundreds of thousands to do this stuff, not that they are earning that amount. Youtube income doesnt cover the costs. Thats why they have merch and other sales. They also don’t have third party sponsors anymore.

These guys are spending tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours of their time to bring this information to you and advocating for your privacy rights and you complain about where the video is hosted and the length of it?
