It happens all the time if you continue to pay attention to events months or years after they occurred. There are people with focus, skills, and interest who dig in to understand disasters and complex factors that often create them.

I guess you can argue that the initial political discussions kick off the resources that get actual solutions created down the line. It’s just sad to me that people get all riled up about crazy situations like the central Texas floods and when the actual analysis of the situation comes in later hardly anyone cares to read the reports or even give a shit about the proposed solutions.

In the US cops have been known to deploy ‘Stingray’ devices that spoof a cell tower and create a record of every phone in the area. In the context of a protests, these records could be used to determine who attend multiple events, who the likely organizers are, etc to create lists of undesirable people who may receive special attention from law enforcement.

More specifically, if shit goes down at a protest there is digital record of your attendance. It’s very easy to go from a peaceful protester to a criminal in the eyes of the government.

I have faith that there are many people in the military chain of command who are smart enough to ‘interpret’ orders and posture deployments in a way that does not escalate and lead to killing.

Google has been kicking the can on ending third party cookie support for years. Chrome has such a large market share that whatever they decide to do has a huge impact on the ability to monetize content with ads.

There’s no clear direct replacement for identifying users for ad targeting outside of 3pty cookies. Lots of competing ‘privacy preserving frameworks’ but they all need buy in from many players at scale to be effective.

Yeah I distinctly remember N64 games being $60 in the late 90s. We saved a lot with digital downloads vs retail over the years but it is funny that games have largely been level in price for 30 years at this point.
