2 is different because it’s a term used nowadays, as in your reply. I’ve never uprooted myself and went somewhere empty to build a house. So, I’m not a settler in the first sense. I’m a settler in the second sense, as I’m not part of any native nation.

We’re referring to two different meanings here.

1. A settler, as in, someone who comes to settle land that has been emptied through war, disease, genocide, etc. This one, we see as negative

2. And settler in opposition to native. Of course in that sense it’s not negative. At least, I, as a settler, don’t see it as negative, it’s just a neutral descriptive and useful term.

I was thinking more of the globalized market for oil.

If Russia can export less refined oil, that can encourage the construction of new refineries elsewhere. This could negate the impact of drone attacks on reducing CO2 emissions.

But as others have said, there’s demand destruction that can have an effect.

There has been a lot of Japanese immigration to Peru in the past. Probably more than anywhere else save maybe for Hawaii and Brazil.

I remember reading that women in Iran could get away with wearing the veil in a way that partly reveal their hair. I don’t know if this has changed with the recent events. All the stories of persecution I’ve read seemed to be about women who had their hair completely free.

But in any case, this is beyond the point I’ve made. Even if women in Iran have to completly cover their hair, it’s not a full body cover like we see in Afghanistan.

I think that’s an encouragement for the aforementioned “others”.
