  • And ESPhome works very well together with Home Assistant if you want to build stuff yourself.

Just get an ESP32 and a sensor or other device that is supported by ESPhome and you will be able to program and connect it very quickly.

There are also ways to use sensors that are currently not supported by ESPhome by writing a custom component, but that is something that I don’t do, too much effort and it’s not that easy.

It’s also crazy just how many different devices can be connected to Home Assistant. If it is at least somewhat widely used chances are good that someome has already written a plugin to make it work.

  • They would also sell datacenter RAM for lower prices to get market share there. Of course they would still make a good profit, but they wouldn’t be able to sell at the same prices as established manufacturers anyway since they first have to prove themselves.

Because who would buy RAM by an unknown manufacturer if you could get it at the same price from a known manufacturer?

Bur we’ll see what happens first, the AI bubble popping or chinese manufacturers producing RAM. Both will help lower the price.

And there is actually a reason to sell consumer RAM, if they establish themselves as a good brand to buy RAM from they can get some loyal customers which might buy from them again, whereas there is no real long term loyalty or reliability in datacenter RAM. If the AI bubble pops they will stop buying it.

Bike tires don’t usually weigh more than 300g.

Car tires usually weigh more than 7kg and you need 4 instead of two.

The only slightest bit of an argument here could be for trains.

I also need maybe 5 specialised tools to service my bike (which is veeeery easy to do compared to doing it on a car) and those tools together cost less than 200€. Then I spend around 200€ a year or less on parts to service my bike, and I use it to go to work every day.

My car is sooooo much more expensive than that, even though I do most stuff myself.
