In the US, servers and restaurant staff tip like 100% of the time they go out because they know how important it is with our current pay laws, and they know that the waiter expecting that tip isn’t the one making the laws or who deserves to be punished for them. So that tip is almost always going to someone else who also tips.

Btw, don’t bother arguing with me that tipping is wrong so we shouldn’t do it. I agree that it’s wrong, but abstaining punishes the wrong people (servers, not owners or policymakers). So instead of writing a comment, write a letter to you local govt to eliminate sub-minimum wages for tipped workers, and keep tipping poor waiters and drivers til they change something.

I mean she married a roadkill-collecting, brain-worm-eaten, anti-vax, anti-Semitic, conspiracy theorizing, generally bigoted lunatic. Like the type of person “lunatic” was coined for. I have a feeling that thoughtfulness and true romance were not at the heart of that decision, as a failing actress now tethered to someone with the last name “Kennedy.” Either conniving and uncaring or a top-tier loon herself.

  • I’ve received in-patient care, overnight studies, emergency procedures, and much more in Spain without ever paying a dollar in copays or fees, and I’ve never waited more than 2 weeks for non-urgent care or an hour for urgent care.

My taxes are $600/month total in Madrid. Given that I have epilepsy, my insurance alone in the US was $490/month, AND I paid more in taxes ($1100/month).

So, yes, universal healthcare isn’t “free,” and it’s supported by taxes. And still, Americans are taxed more AND have to pay for insurance? And then you still have to pay copays? I don’t think “dur dur me taxes!” is actually the strong argument you think it is. And wait times are no longer (or in fact are shorter) in many countries with universal healthcare. But you know what’s longer? Life expectancies.
