I just went through my blocked list and found a couple more that I’ve blocked in the past, usually when the user started spamming posts to them. There were other communities following this pattern that I noticed in passing, but I didn’t block them because they weren’t being aggressively posted to. And now they are gone.

Same. I was wondering when someone would bring this topic up.

I actually thought about contacting the server owner about this trend, to see if they could curtail it. I’ve seen at least seven of these communities pop up and disappear. It’s getting annoying.

Oh okay. Whoever is behind this has been creating and then deleting these communities for over a year now. I guess I exaggerated a bit before when I said they sound up a new one each week. It’s more like every couple of months. I’ve seen at least seven of them pop up. If one was created on the last couple of weeks then the number of downvotes could be because others are tied of this behavior too.

When you say “the first one”, are you talking about the first community? Or the first post on the latest community?

I think it’s a single user who is trying to start some sort of a soft core porn community oriented towards women. The attempts keep failing (getting downvoted), so they just spin up a new user account and community (with a subtly different name each time) and try again. Ad nauseum.

It’s getting really annoying. I’ve blocked several a couple of the accounts and communities. But a week month or two later a new one appears in the new stream.

And they are not helping themselves. The more communities they spin up the more downvotes they get, because quite a few people are clearly getting annoyed by this behavior.

I don’t have a problem with them creating such a community. Not my kind of thing, but each to their own. I just wish they’d stick to a single community and take the time to build it up, instead of spinning up new ones all the time.

People talk about ‘fight or flight’. But a third instinct - freeze - can also happen.

Years ago while living in the suburbs, I was literally stalked up a quiet residential street at midnight by a female fox. I was walking my large dog at the time, and the fox was barking at him. Turns out the fox was in heat and thought my dog was a good mating option. It followed us for several minutes. It was pretty freaky because I didn’t recognize the sound but I could see something from about 100 feet away. It looked kind of like a small dog, but sounded unearthly.

So basically: foxes can be incredibly bold animals, even in suburban areas. And this theory seems plausible to me.

Boiling down the frustration of me and others in these situation to “you’re just saying I told you so” is facile. We’ve been down the path of “yay, good job on seeing the light! Go you! One of us gobble gobble!” far too many times. And it doesn’t do shit. Like I say, I guess it’s good they finally saw the light. But I’m not going to give this couple a proverbial medal or lavish them with praise for finally seeing the fucking obvious.

And like I say, relaying these stories doesn’t help either. At this point anyone maga who hasn’t realized the error of their ways can only learn through the direct consequence of their action. They won’t change their mind because some maga HUD employee three states over got screwed. That’s not how this works.

Acknowledging a mistake only works if you them stop making that mistake. And I’m not convinced these or similar people will do that.

How many red flags have they ignored? They didn’t give a shit about other people being screwed over by him. It was only when it affected them that they started to question. He worked for the Federal government and was still bashing the shit out of it. They ignored the January 6th riots. They voted for the this THREE times. This is all typical maga idiocy, and the reason why we’re in such a mess.

I mean, I guess it’s good they’re seeing reality now. But holy shit. And these stories are basically pointless. Anyone who hasn’t pulled their heads out of their asses by now won’t because of other people’s accounts like this. The only thing that will change their minds is personal hardships. And even then it’s a toss-up.
