The realistic hope I think is that Cuomo had support from extremely wealthy backers. New York Real Estate and Wall Street, Bloomberg, all backed Cuomo.

The people said no. The money didn’t swing it for Cuomo. The name recognition and the money didn’t swing it for Cuomo. The dynasties didn’t swing it for Cuomo.

Mamdani came in and offered real improvements to people’s lives and they gave him their votes.

Dems did the same thing to trump. This could go really well.

The template for this actually played out in Texas. Texas has a very weak governors office in terms of formal powers. Under George W Bush the Republican party systematically took control of each state office and coordinated their efforts to effect the agenda of Bush, Perry, and now Abbott.

They are doing the same thing at the federal level with project 2025 under Trump, they took the supreme court, and now they have removed the career civil servants that would refuse illegal orders from Trump.

If history of other dictatorships is any guide the powers of ICE will be expanded steadily and the other law enforcement agencies and military will be continually overshadowed by ICE and eventually subordinated to them, like the Republican guard of Iran or the SS in Nazi Germany.

We should respond to these people as what they are, domestic terrorists.

The Democrats are a conservative party. They want to get back to the days when the parties had no ideological differences and were just clubs that voters picked personalities they liked most.

That ended during the progressive era, when some politicians (in both parties) got ideas about making the country better for working class people. The Republicans had more friends that were rich as fuck so they started propaganda campaigns among Republican voters and the progressive Republicans were primaried out of office.

Now the Democrats are stuck with the leftist label they don’t really want. Some of their voters do, but only some. American voters want leftist policies to be enacted but are allergic to leftist politicians and organizing.

Absolutely. The US military was tiny at the outbreak of the civil war, and a whole lot of the veterans of the Mexican American war were fighting for the South.

If violence escalates, and I think it might, it will look much more like the troubles than the American Civil war.

You forgot the increased subsidies for first time homebuyers in the democrat plan.

You are correct that neither party has proposed a solution that would help because neither party will admit that home prices need to fall, substancially.

Build enough of them and that problem will work itself out.

But you could also regulate or tax your way to making houses undesirable as investments.
