As I’ve grown older I have felt regret about not stepping into a mentor role like this. I genuinely don’t think I’m the person to do it, nor do I consider myself capable.
Just a cat on the internet.

World News@lemmy.world•Quebec passes secularism law banning street prayers and prayer rooms in universitiesEnglish
42·1 month agoI don’t believe in any religion, don’t like religion, but I also realize that it’s not the governments place to tell people what they can and can’t believe.
Besides that, given the specifics of this law it’s rather easy to see it’s not even about religion as a whole. It’s just more Islamophobia.

politics @lemmy.world•The United States loses its status as a liberal democracy: ‘Trump is aiming for a dictatorship’
5·2 months agonot a few on the left,
Nah, was a lot actually. I know a lot of people that were really upset after the election and after the first few months. Then it stopped being a problem. “You’re overreacting.” “Don’t think about it.” “We’ll be fine next election.”

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Discord keeps walking into rakes, but TeamSpeak is thriving after 'incredible surge of new users'English
4·3 months agoThis feels like it’s happening way too soon. Sure, at the current pace I would expect an exodus from discord eventually, but I didn’t believe that there was so many proactive people on the platform.
Anyway, TeamSpeak has always been great. Discord voice can be rather unstable as you add more people to a chat, or depending on the locations of the people in it.

9·3 months agoWouldn’t call it the end result, but rather the practice of attempting to make people less empathetic is that of an aggressor looking to divide the people. It has nothing to do with the concept of sin, and everything to do with breaking people apart, making people singular, more manageable targets.
This is a way of convincing people to be less trusting of those around them to prevent them from wanting to organize or cooperate with others out of fear that they may be suddenly arrested by undercover agents.

We don’t really care as long as they don’t get on the counter while we cook. You should be cleaning before and after cooking, so it’s not that big of a deal.

Technology@lemmy.world•Discord will require a face scan or ID for full access next monthEnglish
192·3 months agoWhat discussions happen on discord?
You ever have an issue with anything and you find the answer on some random reddit discussion that ends up in your search results when you’re looking around?
Discord isn’t really like the older methods of chatting, where people used platforms to chat for the sake of chatting. Entire communities from forums decided to just upend everything and move into discord. Niche software and other files are often shared among discord communities, or assistance for said files and programs is offered only through specific discord communities.
The platform is still better than anything we had back in the day, it’s just that for some reason people have decided that everything needs to be stored in there.
Anyway, I don’t see much changing. People will probably attempt to take this culture onto whatever new platform they move onto.
Adding this to the list of insects to scoop up on a sheet of paper and put outside. Assuming I ever see one inside.

5·4 months agoThe collapse of the U.S. just makes the rat race feel even more real for everyone.
There is already a large amount of qualified graduates across various fields from India and China. Now we’re adding a third sizable country’s worth of graduates to that.

14·4 months agoShe didn’t deserve that, and these glasses are so problematic. Too problematic for society, just like so much of the AI products being introduced.
Yes some of the glasses are supposed to have lights, but if you search online you can find plenty of ways to cover or conceal them.
Also myself and my significant other wear prescription glasses that have a similar shape to these. At what point do we have to start being anxious about people starting to slug anyone wearing glasses out of paranoid concerns for their privacy?
I don’t want to deal with any of this. We live in such a dystopian world.

World News@lemmy.world•Nearly a third of Canadians believe U.S. may try to invade Canada: pollEnglish
26·4 months agoIt’s inevitable. No one should trust the U.S. right now, and countries should be attempting to strengthen relations with each other to deal with the fallout that is bound to occur.
It’s not even good for searches. It used to be solid for finding a starting point with research, but that has somehow gotten even worse. The summaries it provides are awful, it’s so incredibly inaccurate. Unfortunately the two biggest legal search engines lexisnexis and westlaw are shoving it down your throat whether you want it or not.

Technically that’s what adverse possession or squatters rights actually is.
The general criteria(without state specifics) for legal squatting is incredibly difficult to fulfill though. It’s not reasonable to achieve in the majority of situations.

Games@lemmy.world•Indie Game Awards Disqualifies Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Due To Gen AI UsageEnglish
45·5 months agoI fail to see how this isn’t a good thing?
Yes the AI usage was known about previously, yes, the game probably doesn’t really count as being an indie game, yes game awards are all genuinely terrible, but you have to take what you can get. A small victory is a still a victory.
Redundancy is one of their policies, and this is a big reason why.
Besides that though, even between women there’s a wide variety of menstrual products. What size? Maybe she uses pads or cups instead? How frequently each individual needs them varies too. Even if you’re a guy who is familiar with purchasing these for your girlfriend/wife/daughter you would still want to ask if you were in this sort of situation.
