If that isn’t the most whitewashing AI comment I’ve ever seen…

Not necessarily inaccurate; I just wanted to clarify that there is still a substantial US military presence on the home islands, because the original comment made it seem like only Okinawa hosts US forces

There are still plenty of US Navy bases on the Japanese home islands. SRF Yokosuka, Sasebo, and NAS MCAS Iwakuni spring to mind

As I understand it, most of the agreements regarding crimes committed by service members in Japan under SOFA relate to how Japan can detain service members, and extradition. In this case, because Japan detained the marine off base, there isn’t much the US can do other than ask for him back, which will likely never happen, unless he’s cleared of the murder.
If the marine hadn’t already been detained off base, and was trying to lie low on base, officially the US is supposed to be detain the marine until Japan formally indicts him, at which point he would be turned over to the Japanese police. In reality, that’s the point where the US usually flies the accused service member back to the US before Japan can formally indicts them.

Oh they would if they could. In this case, it seems like he was picked up out around town, so the us never got the chance. And once he’s in Japanese custody, there isn’t much the us can do to get him back, so hopefully this is a good day for justice.

At least the suspect is actually in Japanese custody. All too often in cases like this the Marine Corps flies them back to the US before host nation police can arrest them

So what it does is cut federal grants to cities/towns that still use them, meaning the impact is a lot larger than just no money for cameras. It could seriously cut infrastructure and healthcare funds, and anything else the federal government funds. I do agree this is not a perfect solution, but it’s absolutely a step in the right direction, and I’d rather get something on the books to slow the adoption while the perfect solution is in the works. Don’t let perfect be the enemy of good.

Stop rewarding bullying jfc

Good. This proposed act seems to ban all flock-style camera systems, not just the brand name. This should be a slam dunk for anyone who cares about privacy.
I didn’t get on the reservation list for the Gabe Cube, so I figured might as well try on the Frame, and looks like I might just get one! Both would’ve been a stretch for sure, probably more than is a good idea
Same here! I’m wondering if I just placed that much better than I did for the Gabe Cube, or if there are fewer people interested overall, or what.
That car has found itself in quite the predicament

Appreciate the correction; I got lost in the publisher shell game. Updated my original statement to the intent behind it, not me being wrong about who published the games lol

Halo 1-3 were 2001-2007, which counts as early- to mid-2000s. Halo 4 was 2012, in the early 2010s

Yeah exactly FromSoft is turning out bangers, and somehow Activision is involved? Maybe just to the extent that they aren’t involved so can’t fuck anything up?

The games you mentioned ring in my head as mid-2000s highlights, with nothing more than blatant money grabs published in the last decade. Not very indicative of a healthy studio imo. They may have once been capable of turning out good games, but that was roughly in the era 343 was turning out good games too good Halo games were being released as well

Activision in charge of Halo? That’s a deathblow if ever I heard one.

An AI camera in a self driving car is absolutely not a citizen, so therefore cannot do a citizens arrest, even if this fits into that definition.

That’s more because children are minors, and the parents who are ultimately responsible for the conduct of their children agree to the forms of punishment the school uses. A school can’t detain a child indefinitely if a parent shows up to take them home.
So why are you using it? Why are you trying to whitewash something unethical?
