To be fair, a centralized service with your own layer of encryption on top is an option. Like Borg supports that. Not a real option for miscellaneous small file sharing or organization though, but there may be an OSS solution to that.

These statistical models are not capable of that. They are capable of self reinforcing s feedback loop of looking malicious but it’s ultimately just how the numbers align and has nothing to do with actual intent.

The benefit here is the software by design can’t read your traffic - it’s using SNI to route, not the host header, so SSL pass thru keeps the payload private. It’s billed as shareable for that reason.

I’ve been using micro as well recently. But other than that if I’m on a remote server I’ll use whatever it has available, starting with nano then vi/vim.

Unfortunate. Based on what I can find it’s a solo outfit, so the owner / operator (who I did find but won’t name, just check the blog though) might be indisposed for whatever reason. Couldn’t find anything online though.

My first thought was to take it apart and fix whatever the problem is, I’ve fixed issues like this before.

But I also bought it to be plug and play - disassembling to fix what is either a shipping issue or manufacturing defect is not plug and play. So I decided I would use this opportunity to see how the support experience is. So far my consensus is I’m glad I haven’t had any issues with my Steam Deck…

It makes a loud and very obnoxious mechanical clicking noise that gets worse under load. I’m guessing one of the internal fans got damaged in shipping.

I opened my ticket with a video and explanation - a quick “hey, this is the first boot I’ve not even hooked up a monitor and listen to this noise”.

So far Steam support has asked me if I’ve modified or disassembled it, then told me to try factory resetting it, uninstall any third party plugins, and turn off “updated fan controller”. Last I heard from them was early Wednesday that they’re looking into it. No followup just complete radio silence.

And here I’m in the process of trying to get them to initiate a return because they sent me a defective Steam Machine and so far the support experience has been abysmal.

Yes that’s good enough! Sorry I missed your statement about shutting down first. To clarify I leave mine running since a dump can recover if it gets corrupt.

Basically my backup contains the database and the SQL dump (or equivalent) - that way I don’t need to shutdown the service.

Most of the time that’s perfectly fine, but if the database were in the middle of an operation you risk corruption.

Individually. If the app requires a DB, I put it in the compose file. This simplifies both backups and migrations. My tooling for backups has a pre and post script I can customize on a per app basis so I just have the pre do whatever *dump for that DB and the post clean it up (backup takes a tar of the folder).

What are the extra steps? I would think it would be less, no? Paywall would require you to sign up (or login), verify email, select a subscription, enter payment info, subscribe, then go back to read the article. This seems to just be sign up, verify email.
