It’s like Russia and Ukraine. Trump, if you want to work with Canada, just remove the trade barriers.

If “fears US aggression” is code for “fears reprisals from the US if they try the same thing with Taiwan” then your first sentence is correct.
The US military existing and being ready to respond has historically kept a whole bunch of other players behaving more peacefully than they would otherwise do. The problem is when you get an unpredictable administration in power, which is when other countries start testing the waters and the US military is used unwisely.
Meanwhile, some places have been trying out 4-day 8 hour days, and have found that they retain competent staff who have fewer accidents and make fewer errors, increasing company productivity while reducing wage spend.
Those circumstances include immediate threats to national security and situations where a person is in danger of death or serious injury.
Well I see a problem there. It doesn’t specify the cause of the danger or the reason the person is in danger in the first place.
EFF missed a fun opportunity to call the Rayhunter “DeCSS”.
There’s only one way to solve all diseases.
Did they test this on Mars first?
It’s the politicians who are striving for a classroom where not everyone is equal.
Although, teachers probably consider themselves more equal than their students.
Most major content producers have agreements with YouTube such that as their content is discovered, monetization all goes to the rights holders. In general, this seems like a pretty good idea, and better than copyright maximalism.
However, I’ve had original works of my own “monetized by rights holder” because they used my work (with permission) in one of their products, and so now have co-opted all expressions of my work on YouTube. So the system isn’t perfect.
Magnets that power these facilities are imperfect, and even tiny fluctuations in magnetism can cause resonance.
Thing is, it’s not even limited to the magnets. As the energies go up, things like global gravitational flux and even changes in mass near the accelerator will affect the particle’s path. If this happens over time in line with a resonant frequency, you can get the double bounce effect.
I wasn’t able to tell how much of this they’re currently accounting for with their model, or if they are only factoring in the known magnetic imperfections.
Instead we’re stuck listening to Vogon poetry.
Well, the thing about being a criminal is that it means you’ve been convicted of a crime.
Trump is a criminal. But he was born in the US to US citizens.
The goal is to make all sorts of things crimes such that it’s almost impossible to function in the US as a foreigner without committing a crime. At that point, the government can choose the people to deport at their whim.
Since birthright citizenship is being struck down, and this government interprets the constitution as only applicable to citizens, expect Trump to attempt again to pass legislation for more types of citizenship nullification.
One tricky bit is, if you’re declared legally dead, you immediately become an illegal resident if you’re still alive. And DOGE has already declared a number of people dead by misinterpreting a few databases.
It really is a case of projection, isn’t it?
This reminded me of all the Republican rallying cries against “cancel culture” around removing monuments to not-that-great men and people refusing to spend time on sites whose core values they disagreed with.
And now we’ve moved to these same people removing any reference to actual heroes of history if they happen to have not been successful white heterosexual men.
Cancel culture indeed.
Yes, they can veto, but others should at least be going on the record and REQUIRING the US to use its veto.
This isn’t leaving tech… it’s leaving corporate employment.
Still great options, but I was expecting something more like: pivot to a different role in your existing company and then find another non-corporate use for those skills, or get your apprenticeship in the trades, or become a bus driver.
Stupid? They’re achieving exactly what they set out to achieve. The fact that they’re doing it while saying illogical things doesn’t change that.
Because people got greedy and felt they could depend on everyone else to keep the safeguards in place, while eroding them for their own unjust gain.
Or maybe Putin.
May??? They’ve been targeting them for years!
I wonder how much of that can be traced back to Broadcom acquiring VMWare?
How come this logic doesn’t hold water for people who live in poor neighborhoods or areas with gang activity? Or for migrant workers from Mexico?
