11·3 days agoI don’t understand why they released BO7 so soon after 6. Also seeing 7 after the name reeks of cash grab when it comes to games with reputation like theirs.

12·4 days agoIt runs Linux out of the box not Windows, so it’s not normal. Not to mention it’s barely upgradeable, HDD and RAM only. I know some prebuilts lock you out of upgrading but you can buy plenty that you can fully modify yourself.

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Linus Tech Tips “disappointed” Steam Machine won’t be priced like a console - DexertoEnglish
4·4 days agoUnfortunately “console people who just want to plug something in and start playing” is a pretty big slice of the type of people that like playing multiplayer games especially AAAs which won’t always work. Not to mention they will still be served with a PC game so there will be all of the regular options like graphics that PC players are exposed to.
I’m really hoping Valve proves me wrong but I don’t think I’d recommend this device to a console only player as their first PC.

42·5 days agoAt least the SteamDeck was a different form factor, this will find it difficult to compete with consoles forget normal pre-builts, especially if its more expensive than both

32·5 days agoIt’s a bit of a hard sell in an environment where being economical is the first thing on people’s minds. That’s a very niche audience. People who don’t want to build their own PC, don’t want a normal prebuilt, and are okay being less powerful than a console, and will not to mention not play a ton of multiplayer games out of the box. It’s not going to capture anyone from the console market and its not going to capture the hardcore PC nerds.

Android@lemdro.id•Here's a look at how Android 17 will make alternative app stores easier to useEnglish
31·10 days agoThis is the result of an already years long lawsuit. Google can’t drag it for long, in fact initially they were given only 2 weeks after the decision to implement this but like I said they’ve settled with Epic to make these changes from Android 17 onwards

Android@lemdro.id•Here's a look at how Android 17 will make alternative app stores easier to useEnglish
22·10 days agoThat is impossible because Google will be legally required to make these changes as part of the Epic lawsuit. They have already lost the case to the Supreme Court and they have kind of settled with Epic before the court made a decision. If they back out then Epic will absolutely kill them in court again.
Technically they can make these changes in US only but that would probably be too much to make basically 2 different OS for US and ROW

Android@lemdro.id•Here's a look at how Android 17 will make alternative app stores easier to useEnglish
51·10 days agoThis is due to the Epic lawsuit, the app store will be treated as an actual “app store” rather than a standard app which will have its own advantages
In fact any registered app store will basically have an almost play store like experience I suppose rather than having the standard extra resistance provided when you install an app currently

4·26 days agoUnrelated fun fact: I remember reading (or watching) somewhere that beer was one of the most “sanitary” things people had in ye olden days because they boiled during preparation which killed a fuck ton of bacteria. This was before people knew boiling did anything so while regular food had tons of bacteria, beer was safe to drink!
