politics @lemmy.world•Trump just lost his battle to force a university to release its “list of Jews”
41·5 days agoSure, I should’ve stuck to a strict definition of the poorly defined thing that you “suppose” means something that wasn’t at all indicated in the comment. Makes sense.
The comment made two claims:
- We are outraged about this
- We are not outraged about the targeting of the left
I said:
- We can be outraged about more than one thing.
- What evidence do you have to support your second claim?
Using “we” or “no one” is immaterial in that sentence in this context. It’s not more than just not repeating the same words again and again for readability. No sensible person took that to be an ask for evidence that literally not one single person was outraged. The crux of the question, as written above, is “What evidence supports your claim?” Using your assumed definition, I’d have the same question about both claims instead of just one. My main point that we can be outraged about more than one thing would be unchanged.
Why are you acting like an apologist for normalizing the increasing psychopathy of the American society?
I’m not. You’re just failing to think clearly.

7·6 days agoI have no idea what they’re individually doing or not doing.
But in the interest of national unity, I’ll join you in the most Canadian of pastimes: talking shit about Americans.
Fuck you, you American bastards! Fix your dumb country, you fucking hosers.

Also, I’m Canadian. Not particularly interested in being a good American. Or any kind, really.

What is your basis for saying no one is outraged about this administration targeting leftists? I’ve seen nothing but outrage.

3·11 days agoNot really, but if my circumstances were different I would have. I’ve been super busy so I’ve been a very casual user lately. For me, that means mostly using my phone where I use Voyager. I also bounce back and forth between Lemmy and Piefed. I knew something was wrong with Tesseract but I couldn’t figure out what it was. I wrote a comment about it in a deleted thread that I’ll quote here. This is in response to AdmiralPatrick asking rhetorically if they should have been more up front:
As someone who’s used Tesseract for years, it would’ve been nice. You said elsewhere that no one else had complained but I had no idea what was going on. I use Voyager on my phone and I had notifications showing up there that were absent in Tesseract. I had comments I’d made from my phone that I couldn’t see from my browser. And, like, comments about the World Cup. Does Tesseract hate football? Sports in general? I had no idea that there was a new semi-secret blocklist and that someone else in that comment chain had committed some unknown-to-me sin elsewhere so I couldn’t continue that discussion with others from my laptop. I ended up keeping a second Lemmy-UI tab open because, as much as I love it, I couldn’t trust Tesseract until this mysterious problem was resolved. Not a great experience.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•When will the Fediverse deal with the undisclosed self promo that is happening here, before it turns Piefed/Lemmy into sloppy spam links discussion platform?English
101·12 days agoA lot of the time this is just AI-generated trash, not an actual person linking to their stuff. They are both scammers and spammers.
Townflex is AI plagiarism repackaging trending stories to siphon clicks.
I haven’t deep dived into the cybersecguru but there isn’t a single named human being associated with that site. One “person” claims to have written maybe 15000 words of journalism in the last 24 hours and doesn’t want credit. This is from their About page:
My name is The CyberSec Guru, and I’m the founder of The CyberSec Guru. I’ve been fascinated by technology and online security since my High School days.
Again, I haven’t spent a lot of time looking, but this is probably AI slop.

15·12 days agoThis happens all the time. They fly under the radar for a moment until someone notices them. Then their accounts get banned.
Stermy4u was banned for promoting their AI plagiarism site.
Have you reported the other user? It’s way less likely anyone will notice if they’re not reported. If you report a post make sure to say that the user is a spammer so mods/admins will look at account activity.

politics @lemmy.world•Trump announces re-election bid in rambling address to Washington media
1·12 days agoThe Independent is from the UK. They’re mid as far as newspapers go. They’re also not saying this was a formal announcement:
Donald Trump hinted he will run for president again during a speech at the White House correspondents’ dinner on Friday (24 July).(Emphasis added)
Announcements are the destroyers of uncertainty.
Enough time has passed that we can say definitively that the original story is false. At best it’s bad reporting; at worst it’s misinformation engineered to harvest clicks. If it were true, to say nothing of the news environment, this community would be absolutely wallpapered with stories about it and there’d be a stickied thread about the constitutional crisis.

politics @lemmy.world•Trump announces re-election bid in rambling address to Washington media
1·13 days agoAbout Trump? I doubt we have any disagreement about that. Not about who he is, what he is, what he wants, or how he behaves.
The only question I’m really asking here is: why is the reporting from this single Australian news organization so wildly out of step with every other news organization on the planet?

politics @lemmy.world•Trump announces re-election bid in rambling address to Washington media
31·14 days agoSo the gas lighting has been going on for a bit?
From Trump? Decades and decades and decades.
Gross? We literally have someone who actually did that stuff sitting in the oval right this second. So, if anything, its a presidential metaphor.
I’m not sure gross and presidential are mutually exclusive.
Alright, I think I’ve reached my jumping off point with this one. Good talk. You’re great, whatever I think about the article. Have a good one.
