  • It’s wild how we still learn more and more about Epstein’s person.

He was obviously a sick bastard, but I don’t think he was the worst of the lot.

He was probably more like the frat boy whose parents were always out, so everyone would party at his place. He was thrilled with being the host of it, so he could mingle with the powerful people. If he was truly the mastermind behind all the illegal shit, it seems unlikely that he’d also be stupid enough to write all those files and keep trophy pictures of rich people.

This never made much sense to me, until I realized that someone else is behind arranging the worst of it.

This would explain how he had both ordinary and completely wild illegal shit going on at the same time.

Trump plays a larger role in it, but I also don’t think he is the mastermind behind it. He was allowed access because he took part in and knows the people doing the human trafficking.

I don’t think we know who called the shots in the group yet.

Soviet zone: From the beginning, denazification in the Soviet zone was considered a critical element of the transformation into a socialist society and was quickly and effectively implemented. Members of the Nazi Party and its organizations were often brutally beaten before being arrested and interned. The NKVD was directly in charge of this process and oversaw the camps. In 1948, the camps were placed under the same administration as the gulag in the Soviet government. According to official records, 122,600 people were interned; 34,700 of those interned in this process were considered to be Soviet citizens, with the rest being German

    Let’s math: 122600-34700= 87900 Germans.

Former Nazi officials quickly realized that they would face fewer obstacles and investigations in the zones controlled by the Western Allies. Many of them saw a chance to defect to the West on the pretext of anti-communism. Conditions in the internment camps were terrible, and between 42,000 and 80,000 prisoners died.

Sure they never directly stated that they deliberately wanted to kill all the Nazi, but the result is still that they did kill a good chunk of them (between 50-90%) in the camps.

The history of denazifying Germany shows that the Allies were torn on this.

    To summerize:

Russia “Okay, let’s kill all the Germans.”
Britain “Oh, but then we’re no better than them. We must make due process for all the Nazis.”
USA “Yeah, I don’t think either of you understand the scale of this.”

And the Americans was right. A due process would have taken centuries, and nobody wanted to pay for it.

So that’s why the Nuremberg trials only reached the top of the iceberg and millions of Nazis got away with no other punishment than memories of shame.

  • It’s possible in Denmark too. However they usually only get to the conclusion that they need help after they have been caught in possession of illegal materials.

The psychologists working on it have difficulty getting funding for research. The questions are if it really is a disease on it’s own and if it’s treatable. There’s not a lot of valid data to work with. This made the news last year or so.

I’m no psychologist but my impression is that it’s more like a symptom of a different trauma, which might make more sense to throw money at. It would be interesting to hear from the psychologists who work in prisons.

Anyway, the foundation Save The Children has hotlines for young people who are concerned with their sexuality in one way or the other.

  • something about audio that attracts an atmosphere of wilful ignorance

I think it’s the lack of a shared vocabulary.

Everyone likes some music better than other music, and so everyone think they can tell the difference between good and bad music. However, nobody can explain the difference in plain words.

This easily leads to the conclusion that it is fully subjective, and this is where the ignorance comes from. If nobody can explain what good music is, then my own voodoo explanation is as good as any.

However, we can talk about music theory, audio production and sound analysis in scientific terms to the point where we can even reproduce certain sounds based on the description. But we can’t really understand the description without actually experiencing the sound.

It’s similar to somebody saying “I don’t like this cake” or someone saying “my taste receptors react to the umami in this cake”, but I still wouldn’t have a clue about how the cake tastes.

Sound is also different from other sciences in that there is very little proof of one thing being more correct than others. And that goal changes constantly. Whenever somebody does crack the code to what people enjoy, it’ll get boring really quick.

I had a music teacher long ago who said that there is no bad music, only wrong audiences. His point was that the music that makes it through to the recording and publishing will already have passed the filter where someone made a decision if there is an audience for it. If you hear bad music, then you’re just not the right audience.

Anyway, cables. Who cares. The end result is the most important part. However, I’d prefer to hook up the instruments on stage with thick cables instead of bananas. Same thing applies at home. Any wire will do, but cheap wires do break.
