Yeah, the fact that they are using bespoke parts, but still barely come in above the independent build cost tells me that they aren’t raking billions off of this. I’m fine with the price. Expensive, yes, but so is everything else.

politics @lemmy.world•Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear asks Sen. Mitch McConnell to give a public update on his condition
821·5 days agoHonestly, as selfish as it is, I don’t care about the special election. I want Mitch dead because I want Mitch dead. I want that motherfucker to rot. The sin against me right now is withholding that joy. I have a bottle of rum that I only take a drink out of when a cunt dies. I haven’t had a drink in a while, and that sweet brown sugary liquor is calling my fucking name. Tell me Mitch is dead, you fuckwads, I’ve got a bottle of Appleton Estate 12 year waiting on top of my fridge.

Games@lemmy.world•Update: 136 workers have been laid off at id SoftwareEnglish
46·5 days agoThis in particular is probably the worst thing to come out of this whole debacle. id was an ecosystem, not just a dev house. I’m not sure that many will be able to forgive Microsoft after this one. Out of all the studios, this one is the most damning. There just isn’t a clean logic to it other than pure corporate shortsighted greed.

Technology@lemmy.world•Unpopular truth: Telemetry collection actually happens because people are garbage at being helpful to supportEnglish
54·8 days agoThey do give a shit about what the collective is doing, which is ironic, because the people that want things to change are the people that stop Microsoft from seeing what they are doing. When the power user opts out of letting Microsoft see how they use Windows, it pushes Windows user base more towards the center, as Microsoft sees it. So, when a feature is lost, a user can’t claim that the feature was load bearing because their use-case is self-muted. Of course, you can always just switch to Linux and hope whatever feature you want has enough support from the community to maintain status in the kernel, but that’s just trading one engineer for the other.

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•New Steam Machine rival offers a Ryzen 9 CPU and RX 7600 XT for $849, but you have to bring your own RAM [aside of 16GB VRAM included already]English
173·9 days agoHow many of these Steam Machine Killers are going to contribute to Proton? That alone is why Steam gets my money over them. These other players are in it for the cash, riding on the work that is done by others. At least Valve is putting their money where their mouth is.

Games@lemmy.world•GOG seemingly shares that they are considering physical PC 'big box' games. Maybe?English
1·9 days agoOptical storage is much cheaper than physical storage at the moment. If I wanted to back up my entire steam library, it would be less expensive to do it with a mix of Blu-rays and DVDs. Blu-rays are also good from 10-50 years, with archival grade good for up to 100 years.
Now, yes, I can just burn the installers to the disc, so that’s fine, but I’m talking specifically about them released big box games, where I don’t necessarily want the game, but I do want the launcher/installer experience as it was when it was first released.

Games@lemmy.world•GOG seemingly shares that they are considering physical PC 'big box' games. Maybe?English
21·10 days agoI’d rather see them just list the ISOs so we can burn them to disc ourselves. These are fun, but niche. Listing an ISO isn’t far off from what they regularly do.

A Boring Dystopia@lemmy.world•This can't possibly end badly 😬🤦🏻
13·16 days agoThat tells a wholly different story than the OP. The article says the government is moving nuclear material into private power to enable more nuclear power growth within the US. The image reads like Trump is giving Silicon Valley the ability to create nuclear bombs.
So, that said, my last line is doubly true. The post should be removed, especially now that we have a source, because the post is an fearmongering at best, and misinformation at worst.

37·16 days agoI’ve gone back through YEARS of their posts on Bluesky and Twitter and I can’t find this post at all. Either they never made it, or they deleted it. Whichever is the case, I wouldn’t trust a cropped image of a social media post without anything to back it up. This post should probably be removed unless a credible source can be cited.

Games@lemmy.world•I'm loving zelda-like souls-likes right nowEnglish
21·16 days agoIt does, and that’s a great thing, but playing the game as intended is pretty rough for me. Like I said, if that kind of difficulty is your gig, go for it, or, if you don’t mind tweaking the difficulty and playing an easier version, then go for it. I’m playing a soulslike for the difficulty, so changing it to make it easier feels like going against principals.

You have to wonder about correlation and causation here. Are the billionaires spending money on these elections because of their Epstein ties? Or is it just that every fucking one of these billionaire perverts is in the fucking files?
