Even if I buy a game on Steam I don’t technically own it. If the game was ever deleted from their servers and then I lost my local copy either because I uninstalled it or because I got a new computer, I would have no way to get my game back, and I doubt that Valve would refund me.

But some games literally don’t have physical releases, even if I did have an optical drive. So what option do I have?

The only real solution to all of this is a changing copyright law that says that once a piece of software no longer becomes commercially available through legitimate means it becomes legal to pirate it. Phones have historically had use of replaceable batteries for years it’s been fine. Because companies are not providing products with removable batteries so the consumers refusing to buy products with non-removable batteries doesn’t work because there’s no alternative product to purchase. Manufacturers know they have consumers in monopoly so they have no reason to change.

The USB c-thing is not just about user friendliness it’s also about the environment. Constantly having to throw old charges away because their incompatible with new products produces an enormous amount of e-waste, everyone using the same charger reduces it, which is only a good thing. Also the Apple charger which is what I’m assuming you’re going on about is actually less safe than the usb-c standard. I think we can all agree that manufacturers should use safer options when they become available.

That’s a misrepresentation of what happened. The police already suspected her, and so they requested the information from Facebook. Facebook didn’t voluntarily supply a bunch of data to the police for no reason, and then the police didn’t comb through all the data to find this one crime that they otherwise didn’t know about.

What is being suggested with the automatic cars is that the police are actively monitoring the surveillance footage looking for criminal activity. They definitely won’t be doing that. It’s way to much like work.

The biggest problem is it really isn’t all that clear what the pros and cons are various instances are, and the truth is that for the most part with the exception of a few particular instances it really doesn’t matter.

What might make the most sense is to have a website people can sign up on and then it just registers their account on one of a few instances to spread the load. Obviously that list I would have to be curated so it didn’t include obvious problematic instances,but it wouldn’t be that hard to do that. And that would make it as easy as threads is which basically is just an instance when all said and done.
