i get ya, but also a lot of people don’t have a dedicated self hosted setup. recently my hdd died and all my films were there, so now i’m downloading and deleting, which just feels like a drag to start bazarr for one film. this is handy for some people.

tauri is better and more efficient for this.

it’s not a search engine, but a proxy, you get your results from multiple sources. i’m currently using it as my main place to search stuff and it works, sometimes there are some quirks (i could improve my config maybe) but it works, i’ve tried searxng years ago and it was a mess in comparison. keep in mind degoog it’s written in js mostly so it’s a bit heavy but it has more features and stuff. if you want absolute minimum 4get works very well.

i kind of understand it, tho, if you’re kind of reinventing something you want to use infrastructure that’s already built as much as you can to focus development on the thing you’re actually working on. we should be really grateful it even exists in the first place since it’s not an easy task to build all of what the nix project is today. but well, of course one can always think of an even more efficient, better, perfect, more stable OS.

yeah, i actually don’t use nix but i’ve been thinking a lot about moving to it. you essentially declare the stuff you need and the way apps are installed makes it so that it avoids dependency hell. this is a very niche thing though, since it’s essentially nixos without systemd (which makes it super unstable and essentially needs a lot of user fiddling) but a very interesting idea.

yeah, i understand it tho, you could easily build machine running this as the main thing, but it makes it sound like something else. i tested it and it’s still a bit fragile, specially with regards to stuff like the kitty protocol, but it looks promising so maybe in some time it will be a nice option.
