  • But what did he do? I’m not very tuned into everything that happened. Did he commit sexual assault or not? If they can’t charge him, I’d assume that means they can’t prove he did it right? OFC that doesn’t mean he actually didn’t, but I don’t see why anyone should “socially punish” him over something you don’t even know if he did or not, and something that he was found not guilty of.

I don’t mean for this sound like sexual assault apologia or something, I just really don’t understand the situation very well and trying to look this up online all I see is that he was accused and then found not guilty.

  • Well, that’s all great. But the big problem with these kinds of platforms is always that hosting all this data (especially videos) is extremely expensive. It’s not necessarily impossible that donations+ads+subs can cover all the infrastructure costs, but generally there’s a need for some sort of big capital backing. Open Source is not something that gets that sort of private investment.

But hey maybe. I’d absolutely love that.

The model is pretty successful anyway, some people here have mentioned Pixiv and Nebula.

  • Hmm…

IDK, I think a big thing with federation should be communities being spread out, instead of centralized in one instance. I totally get why you would want to move away from lemmy.ml, both on account of the Mali government and feeling like it doesn’t fit, but why not move to, say, Lemmy.zip or Derpzilla.net, since they’re tech and gaming focused instances? I get discoverability, but on the other hand, wouldn’t being on an instance of people that are more likely to care about a certain topic be better for discoverability too?

IDK, just saying. Hope all goes well with your community!
