Suddenly, I miss the old days of Android. I suppose it’s back to CyanogenMod or whatever it is these days

Sure there is… stop using Facebook.
Regulatory capture seems about on par for Google these days. I suppose I’ll be switching back to OnePlus for Android devices; that’ll be about it for Google stuff in my home.
“Most” seems to be doing some incredibly generous work here.
at 4K/High Settings
Do you believe 90% of gamers will be playing at 4K/High settings?
Yarr intensifies
We went from a time where you had to rebuild your fucking kernel to get your graphics card to work and fucking around with Wine to get to a point where you nearly throw your PC out the window until you can get a little app to run to simply running apt install nvidia-driver-xxx and clicking on a button to make a Windows game run in Linux.
I have fond memories of getting World of Warcraft working on Linux back in ~2008 only to realize it had an OpenGL mode that ran better than the DirectX mode I was trying - and failing - to get working.
You aren’t wrong about kernel and driver shenanigans.
I see we can mark off “double down on wartime economy boost” on the recession check list.
Yeah I can almost guarantee that the original plan was always for him to leave. He was going to be the scapegoat with a golden parachute, allowing the company to keep the unpopular changes while disbursing the bad publicity. It’s exactly what he did with EA too.
I hadn’t considered that… fair point. Pay someone handsomely to take the immense PR hit and move on.
You’re not wrong; I suppose my criticism is as much of that practice as it is of this individual specifically.
My only complaint is such maneuvers tend to come with golden parachutes - his mismanagement of Unity leading to the whole fee debacle and erosion of trust deserves no such soft landing.
My local friend group is right there with you. You’d think we’d have learned from the open beta…
I’ll have to look into it - thanks for the suggestion.
Poor Splunk - such a useful tool does not deserve the upcoming enshittification.
Hikvision has a decent line of chinesium local-only PoE cameras. I’ve used a few of them with Frigate and Home Assistant with great success.
an EV charged from fossil electricity saves only 33% on emissions compared to a fossil car
Or, stated more honestly, an EV deriving electricity from even fossil-based grid-scale generation uses roughly half the raw combustables as an ICE with the added benefit of emission scrubbing.
if i am paying 40k$ for an EV i am expecting my purchase to act as a contribution to safeguard the environement
We are fortunate, then, that this is already the case.
EVs are a pass for me for now but thats my opinion.
I’m not sure how you’ve determined they should be a pass - if you’re comparing like to like and comparing to new ICE vehicles of similar capability, there’s no reason not to go EV for most people.
But sure, it is a matter of preference.
You are aware that internal combustion engines also use non-renewables at a much lower efficiency than grid-scale use of non-renewables, right?
Were you aware that only ~1/3 the energy from combustion is harnessed for propulsion in a traditional ICE?
The lack of Google/Microsoft enshittification is a huge draw.
Pretty much this; the politics subs put an incredibly fine point on it.
