2008 crisis was a lot of folks being forced to sell their investments At a loss Large banks bought up those shares for very cheap.
The current fear I have is SPY, which is a lot of retirement funds, is 1/3 AI stocks. It feels a bit like big banks are finding ways to load up trillions of bad debt into these stocks.
The bubble was because of speculative finance assholes ripping each other off by pointing at the thin vaneer of corporate windows built on the tools that were mostly developed by the military, universities, CERN and countless nerds’ computer rooms and garages.

82·2 months agoGPS is vulnerable to various attacks.
It’s unclear what the capabilities are, but there IS a Russian satellite that HAS jammed GPS for almost a whole hemisphere. It’s operated several times for a couple seconds over these past few years.
Veritassium did a great presentation on how we know this.
Probably hoping to do what GitHub did. Profit of the metrics of who is downloading what, who is developing what and having everyone uploading all their stuff to them.
Microsoft didn’t buy GitHub for the storage and bandwidth bills.

1·3 months agoAgree. I think I’m going to add googles open knowledge format frontmatter to my templates. Not a lot of tools for it exist yet, but they’re coming, and it’s literally just a standard header for your markdowns including optional tags
Sounds convenient enough to me. I used to keep notes on Evernote, then my own media wiki instance on a VPS, tried Google docs. Lost most of those due to changing jobs, forgetting to renew subscriptions and getting locked out of my yahoo email. Google docs is surprisingly annoying to search for me

They are raising prices because there is new demand in the market. That’s not socialism at all, it’s market forces.
I’m betting the datacenters and power companies are funded by capital from investors that demand to receive the maximum capital return that can be extracted from that municipality. That’s capitalism

I think the issue is LLMs can’t do a humans job, only be a tool for a human to use. And the tasks it’s good at weren’t large bottlenecks to begin with.
