TL;DR: “In God we trust. All others must bring data.”
what the heck does that mean?

Flashing a custom ROM prior to this update on top of ColorOS 16.0.3.501 (or newer) will result in an immediate hard brick. This is because, as of now, almost all current Custom ROMs for the OnePlus 13 / Ace 5 were built before this fuse policy came into existence.
🤔

you’re right. thanks for the precision
At its core, the operating system is known as the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) and is free and open-source software (FOSS) primarily licensed under the Apache License. However, most devices run the proprietary Android version developed by Google, which ships with additional proprietary closed-source software pre-installed, most notably Google Mobile Services (GMS), which includes core apps such as Google Chrome, the digital distribution platform Google Play, and the associated Google Play Services development platform. Firebase Cloud Messaging is used for push notifications. While AOSP is free, the “Android” name and logo are trademarks of Google, who restrict the use of Android branding on “uncertified” products. The majority of smartphones based on AOSP run Google’s ecosystem—which is known simply as Android—some with vendor-customized user interfaces and software suites, for example One UI. Numerous modified distributions exist, which include competing Amazon Fire OS, community-developed LineageOS; the source code has also been used to develop a variety of Android distributions on a range of other devices, such as Android TV for televisions, Wear OS for wearables, and Meta Horizon OS for VR headsets.

Step one: remove Android and install an open source OSp
isn’t Android open source?
Even if you have Lineage or Graphene, you may need to have access to boogle play store. In which case, a better advice would be to use Aurora instead
good to hear/read.

Even if your phone is “off” it’s transmitting an ID for antitheft purposes.
Faraday bags!

🤦

fuck amazon.
input depends on which continent or country you’re in(?)

i want another story where Jack has no place to go; in a world in which all states, one after the other, pass similar laws

i reluctantly started reading and i couldn’t stop. Well written. Thanks for taking the time to write this and share it too

i’m still on old lawnchair (legacy?) because it’s more customizable than the up to date lawnchair
i keep an eye on eblan einstein as a replacement for lawnchair ☞ https://f-droid.org/packages/com.eblan.launcher/
i also use drag on launcher because it’s genial ☞ https://apt.izzysoft.de/fdroid/index/apk/org.elnix.dragonlauncher
all these with arcticons https://f-droid.org/packages/com.donnnno.arcticons/ and some abstract icons i made

partner uses Vivaldi which has a very practical option to disable background synchronization for all sites and make exceptions for some.
i can’t see something similar in firefox/librewolf preferences

another question would be: Now that your government has a face and a name for that telephone you’re using, what other information can they get through boogle’s trackers and what are they using it for?

you can block trackers (i use netGuard) and the app will probably still work fine. Same with banking apps

they added widget support with the last update
i remember learning to degoogle with adb. it wasn’t easy and i had to reset more than a couple of times
then i installed LineageOS, after adb it was easier. For somebody else it may be “difficult” indeed
then i installed GrapheneOS for a friend. It can’t get any easier. Their web installer makes degoogling accessible to everyone.
