Yeah the British and French efforts to colonise the Falklands were probably the least morally questionable act of colonisation ever, since there was no indigenous people there to repress. They genuinely were terra nullius, in the actual original sense not the inhumane imperialist meaning of ‘we don’t consider the inhabitants human’.

The Falkland Islands, population about 3000 or so, would suddenly find itself one of the few territories in the world capable of deploying an aircraft carrier.
From what I understand it’s only WMDs that are internationally banned from space, while obviously a rather distasteful thing to do it’s not unlawful to put conventional weapons in space. The Soviets armed some of their space stations with autocannon for example, which isn’t even the best example of their space programme making Bond villains everywhere look like complete scrubs.

I don’t think Kagi are unfair charging a subscription, it means they have financial incentives which aren’t mass cyberstalking like the adtech search providers. If a commercial service is free, you are almost certainly the real product.
I’m happy with their pricing and service level, while I prefer to self-host good luck self-hosting a search engine.

British bollards on the other hqnd tend to be stout and solid, after the Battle of Trafalgar it was found the French guns that were captured could not be retrofitted into British ships so they got turned into London bollards as a way of rubbing it in. While only a few of these still exist, they inspired the general shape of London bollards for a long time.

There’s hating technology in general and then there’s hating the US West Coast tech scene specifically in my opinion.
I have a neurological vision disorder which I suspect augmented reality glasses would help a lot, but sod letting Meta see my life from a first-person perspective 24/7, or the lives of anyone around me for that matter. Also I suspect a genuine medical device would have to be made very obvious, you don’t want accessibility tech being mistaken for pervert tech. I wouldn’t take the risk frankly! It’s like if I’m talking to someone and they have a hearing aid in that’s fine, but if they’ve got headphones in I’m going to feel a little cheesed off on the face of it.
Also not American but I work for a trans-Atlantic company, those things sound like a PHI nightmare in a medical setting given Meta’s habit of indiscriminately hoovering up data like as many labradors in a pantry.
