Good background, thanks. Ya, catch 22 is a good way to put it… It makes it tough for other countries to recognize both PRC and ROC without offending PRC.

Triumphal arches go back to at least the Romans, so the one in Paris is nothing close to the original. It’s a copy, as well.

archive.is seems to be down right now.
The People’s Republic of China and the Republic of China are two different governments that both claim sovereignty over mainland China and Taiwan.
They both want to unite China, but only one of them is in the position to do it.
Internal to Taiwan, there are parties that support reunification and support independence (opposing views), but Taiwan has not yet reneged on its claim of mainland China.

It’s not a neighbouring country, it’s the same country. Ask Taiwan.

Ya, I agree it looks like blogspam, but even most blogspam links to their sources.

Occam’s razor.

Laws are made through a long process of consideration, debate, and revision. Govt institutions regulate and apply laws with extensive transparency and oversight. Its decentralised, cautious, and robust.
Congress has been ceding it’s power for a long time and it predates Trump by decades. Trump is just the first to take advantage of it in such a large scale.

Or, more likely, Russia supports China’s annexation of Taiwan and China supports Russia’s annexation of Ukraine.

They passed the bill to release the files, stands to reason that the same people would vote for impeachment.

“Tensions”? Anything but war, i guess.

The usage is correct and indicates possession.
Any nation that wants to keep their sovereignty needs nukes. Agreements like the Budapest Memorandum were a mistake for some of the countries involved (Ukraine).
True enough, but it’s pretty much the same to use sed, unless you need those milliseconds of performance boost.
Definitely not the ultimate, since it’s not POSIX, but still a nice tidbit.
I was thinking sed, too, but to replicate the behaviour (and scene):
echo "HOLD THE DOOR" | sed -n '
p
s/E//g p
s/L//g p
s/TH//g p
s/ //g p
s/DO//g p'
Note: -n suppresses the default printing that sed does, so I could include the last p for symmetry and clarity 🙂

I don’t know, but I found this article interesting with respect to unsafe Rust - https://lightpanda.io/blog/posts/why-we-built-lightpanda-in-zig
I basically do the same, but in a single command and I have all my aliases (and functions) in ~/.aliases.

I only played it for 15 seconds, but I could hear the music anyway!
He actually did, he just didn’t wait to hear back that it was a terrible idea.
