yes, company allows installing any OS. Also my previous employer was a University, who maintains their own flavor on Linux, which was then one of the official choices in addition to Windows and OSX.
there are a gazillion switches to control the behavior. Like, --ignore-existing, to not overwrite any existing files …
both: pull for servers that are on 24/7. push for laptops (for example at login time, or other)
