We had that before, on the PS3 anyway. Games just required an “online pass” to use the online features. Usually you got a code to redeem one with a new copy of the game, but if you bought second hand, you had to pay for it.

I’m not sure if that was any better than paying for one subscription to access online features for all games. I understand that there are costs in running the servers and such, though I agree that the subscriptions are definitely over priced

It would be cool if they were smart about it. Like, make you watch a cutscene once, but if, say, the cutscene is just before a tough boss and you saved just before the cutscene, then if you lose to the boss and need to try again, you won’t have to watch the cutscene a second time. Especially if it’s a long one.

There should always be an option to pause a cut scene though.

Nintendo is, as ever, a shitty company for the community. I understand that they hold the nostalgia carrot over everyone’s head (or at least those over a cetain old age)
