World News@lemmy.world•Denmark seeks to make it illegal to spread deepfake images, citing concern about misinformationEnglish
11·6 months agoCame across this post today. https://bsky.app/profile/kojamf.bsky.social/post/3ltav35egbs2q
How would you classify this? I know it to be fake, but its created to make a point. But its good enough that someone could be fooled intl believing it was real, no?

politics @lemmy.world•Why AOC should run for president in 2028
21·6 months agoImagine a primary with AOC, Pete Buttegieg, and maybe a third younger candidate…
All could be really exciting to see advance, but they’ll split the vote and open the way for some stupid fucking corpse to win.
I hate this system.

World News@lemmy.world•Denmark seeks to make it illegal to spread deepfake images, citing concern about misinformationEnglish
1·6 months agoI hear you, but this is subjective and not objective. A bad faith actor, presumably an authoritarian government, can exploit laws like this to advance their agenda. “Yes, I was definitely convinced that was George HW Bush”.
Subjective judgements are ripe for abuse of power, sadly.

World News@lemmy.world•Denmark seeks to make it illegal to spread deepfake images, citing concern about misinformationEnglish
61·6 months agoIt’s a slippery slope from something that is otherwise well intentioned.
Define what a deep fake is over a parody or other political commentary.

politics @lemmy.world•Rep. Mary Miller loses it over 'a Muslim' speaking in Congress
2·7 months agoI’m with you in your frustration, but this only furthers a class of elites being eligible to govern. The test needs to be at a level that anyone going through compulsory education could pass. Eg 8th grade.
Additionally, I would do the test at candidate registration. There is no pass fail, but the electorate can decide if they’re qualified enough (as it’s the right of the electorate).
Maybe it doesn’t fix it fully but we can directly point to who is a moron, and who voted for said morons.

55·1 year agoAnd how does it look when he fires the guy investigating his son? That’s the same shit we derided trump for doing… tinkering with the Justice Department which has long operated with a high degree of independence for exactly these reasons.
No win situation for Biden, who assumed he would get another term in office. Don’t pretend it isn’t anything but.

It’s about retaining control over monetary policy, which is centrally decided in the eurozone.
