World News@lemmy.world•The Amazon has a 286% increase in fires in February
3·2 years agoHow is the data for February in other years? A quick Google didn’t give me this data, but I gathered that the number of fires in the wet season can vary wildly from year to year, where more fires occur in El Ninõ years.

World News@lemmy.world•Germany: Berlin schools asked to distribute leaflet describing the 1948 Nakba as a 'myth'
233·2 years agoThe general idea is that these parties do not want to be seen as anti-semetic, especially considering the German past. Which leads to no criticism towards Israel whatsoever. It’s a shame actually, because this opens the door to the AfD party, who dont have qualms about these kind of things.

Technology@lemmy.ml•Snapchat isn’t liable for connecting 12-year-old to convicted sex offenders
66·2 years agoI take it that you’re not a parent. So, if Snapchat is not able to know that someone is a sex offender, how is a parent to know? All you can do as a parent is talk to your kids about the dangers of these kind of apps. Sure, you could, and maybe should, forbid usage of these apps, but at the end of the day you’re not looking over your kids shoulders 24/7.

RetroGaming@lemmy.world•Maybe not the coolest thing here but I found this in a reno were doing.
4·2 years ago300 ohm is only for the folded dipole antennas which have a four times higher impedance than a single dipole. So you don’t need to use a balun with a roof antenna, just the right type of dipole.

13·2 years agoIn the Netherlands we’ve always had coaxial connections as long as I can remember. A quick google search tells me this has been so since the introduction of TV in the 1940’s.

Technology@lemmy.world•‘There is no such thing as a real picture’: Samsung defends AI photo editing on Galaxy S24
41·2 years agoI should have specified that I mean the x-files type of UFO’s, containing aliens.

Technology@lemmy.world•‘There is no such thing as a real picture’: Samsung defends AI photo editing on Galaxy S24
141·2 years agoAt this rate with this mentality, we are going to have photo “evidence” of bigfoot and UFO’s before 2030.

Technology@lemmy.world•'It hasn't delivered': The spectacular failure of self-checkout technology
73·2 years agoNot for me. Take in consideration that I don’t do a lot of shopping. Two of the maybe four times times I used a self check-out last year;
- So I go to the self check-out. One of my items is on clearance. I scan it. It shows full price. turns out I needed to scan a different bar-code for the clearance. However, I can’t remove the already scanned bar-code from the list, so now I need to call assistance.
- My kids drink a lot of coke zero, so when it goes on sale I usually buy a lot of it. In this case, I took all that’s left in the store. I scan one bottle, do a quick count and adjust the number of bottles accordingly. I place the bottle in my cart and realize I’ve counted one too many. I can’t take it off, and now need to call assistance.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Is shadow banning submissions/comments/users a thing on Lemmy?
41·2 years agoI’ve had this happen, but I found out it is of magazines I had blocked later on, hiding the comments for me. (I’m on Kbin, don’t know if this works the same way elsewhere)

Programming@programming.dev•[advice] How do you learn with brain fog and bad memory?
3·2 years agoFor me: Mini breaks and short walks help get my head clear, or at least less foggy. Explaining it to someone else also helps, even if the other person is imaginary (which is in most cases for me). Note taking can also help, but I suck at it. When I did do it, my best notes are (for coding) files with a code example containing lots of comments.

Technology@lemmy.world•Auto execs are coming clean: EVs aren't working
7·2 years agoYearly income is less than 70k for most Europeans. In Denmark the average income is higher, but the rest of Europe is lower, average would probably be less than 40k.
