The most popular of them all is probably All-Rounder Mr. Fujii (68), a former prison officer turned community volunteer. His card is so sought after that local kids have even started asking him for autographs.
“I was honestly shocked when they asked me to sign it,” Mr. Fujii said, laughing. “I never imagined I’d become a trading card, let alone have fans.”
This is the kinda news I need today.
This is actually really cool and wholesome
I wonder how we would mess it up if we tried something like that
people would be harassed
Mr. Honda (74)… Soba Master Mr. Takeshita (81)… Mr. Fujii (68)
These are the people Japan considers “middle-aged”?! I’ve heard that Japanese people have long lifespans, but calling an 81 year-old “middle aged” seems a bit optimistic.
Yet, somehow, my brain managed to think the sentence was referring to people from the Middle Age… In hindsight, these are rather young :)
The title made me think there was a man in his forties, trading TCG cards and it vent viral.
Old Japanese men are crazy wholesome. Got accosted by one in Hiroshima’s Coin Road who was so proud of his English and wanting to talk to foreigners.
He was such a sweety! Told us he lived nearby, but came from elsewhere and that he was a rock star!
Ended up chatting with a local shop, then he just showed up again with a friend! Hahaha.
That is so clever. I’m almost speechless reading the article. He took an estranged community and turned them into role models for the kids.
It would be nice if they expand beyond just men too.
What a lovely article to read with a morning brew.
Much better than the content posts about tariffs or genocide
what a wonderful story, so glad I read it
