b) The second point you make has nothing to do with my comment. I’d have thought you accidentally responded to the wrong comment except for you pointing out ‘insular’. Why are these things relevant to the discussion?
Lemmy does seem to have some insular thinking (just like all social media communities). Feels like you can actually have discussion and at least learn why people hold those views instead of just being chastised.
I could be wrong but I think the 3.5% protest observations assumes but doesn’t count non-participatory support. So the 3.5% is meant as the number in the streets with some much higher percentage of ‘quiet’ support.

On a completely unrelated note, this type of online conversation is what makes me most pessimistic about LLMs. I’m fairly certain Chozo is a human, but as time goes on it will become much more likely companies will have bots crawling all social media looking for conversations like this as a standard part of their PR team. It will make it impossible to discern truth from hallucination and ultimately just erode trust in everything. It’s such a bleak future.
The operation was carried out by Mexico. US supplied intelligence, assumed location information. Characterizing this as the US murdering someone outside it’s borders is disingenuous and really just a false statement.
In addition, the generation of knowledge is inherently a progressive trait. It acknowledges that we don’t have all the answers but with effort we can find them and that we will need to change our world view to accept them.
Conservatism is the resistance to change, putting value in tradition over novel ways of thinking. It is antithetical to knowledge generation.
This means institutions that are designed to generate knowledge will not foster conservative ideals.
The US’s position of economic strength is so fragile too. Most of it is in the financial and technology sectors, both of which can be moved relatively easily because their value is in non-tangible things. China’s economic power is in manufacturing - being able to build tangible things. Factories are much more stable.

While this is really hopeful news, be careful not to extrapolate too far. Turnout for a special election is not equal to turn out for a general or presidential election.
SpaceX has been phenomenally successful. I don’t think he can be attributed to much of that success. The Falcon 9 handled 95% of launches in 2024. SpaceX has went from non existant to a near monopoly in 23 years while competing against some of the most powerfully connected companies in the world.
I’m not a SpaceX fanboy (I’m a space fanboy). They have done a lot of good for the space industry, while also causing a lot of harm to the scientific space community (earth based observations). I just don’t think you can make an argument that SpaceX is not a successful company.
