They shouldn’t necessarily fully trust him, but they should give him an opportunity to show he has the best interests of the Syrian people at heart.
These mental gymnastics that selectively apply to very few specific instances to prop up US interest is always wild.
The Nazis gave up their arms too, why did the Nuremberg trials happened then? Why even have international laws against war crimes when you can just say what the west wants to hear and get off scot free. This is exactly the plan with Netanyahu too.
