    OK, but now, what if instead of everyone using that money to buy insurance the government just bought the insurance for everyone. And then what if instead of paying an insurance company to pay healthcare expenses the government just directly paid those healthcare expenses. It would be so much simpler with a lot fewer middlemen involved.

      The only problem is when the GOP shuts the government down again and they stop making any payments for any of it

      Not that private sector insurance is good but I don’t think I want Congress in charge of my healthcare either, so they can take it away from scary brown people and create the “death panels” they’ve always dreamt of

        When they write the law for single payer they can write that it is automatically funded like all of the other things that are automatically funded. The only optional things that shut down when congress can’t pass an appropriations bill are things like feeding starving children.
