Not big into suicide jokes but if I die at work I’m laughing at everyone who has to do paperwork over it

Please do not joke about suicide. You never know when someone actually means what they say. With suicide, always assume that the other party is serious and help them to the best of your abilities. I’m sorry, but it’s not a topic I like to take lightly.

My best friend i met when we both at our lowest point. What got us through that time was being so brutal and dark with suicide jokes. For my part, make as many jokes as you can to combat to disarm the seriousness of the situation and make it tolerable to live with a head full of the worse thoughts.

So, respectfully, no. I wont stop making jokes about suicide. For some it works. Humour disarms and ridicules the very idea of suicide.

You feel sad for yourself. A person joking about themselves committing suicide is experiencing suicidality like 99% of the time. They might not be able to do it because of fear of death, but they almost certainly actually think about it and joking about it is a coping mechanism.

And therefore, such jokes are a warning sign that I’m not willing to ignore. I’m sorry if you don’t feel that way.

The question becomes, whose feelings should we be concerned with, the suicidal or the people who know the suicidal person?

Personally, I’d rather suicidal people or people experiencing suicidality to have their additional coping mechanism.
