I’m interested in getting one
Huh. That is not at all what I was expecting out of Xbox.
Can we go the other direction and bring back the Duke?
The Steam Controller (2026) is trying
I was thinking the exact same thing!
My oversized hands desire a grizzly bear, but with the extra buttons on the back!
Preferably mouse click like the Razer Wolverine rather than paddles, though.
So they’re clearly still chasing the “everything’s an Xbox”.
Which I still don’t get whose buying into that. How is it different than pc games, besides needing an Xbox account and I’m assuming an Xbox live subscription to play online? You’re giving Microsoft control of your games, for what exactly?
Is this only targeting existing “Xbox people”? Do those still exist?
The explanation is that XBOX is basically doing the opposite of Steam. They’re transisitoning from a hardware platform to a software platform. “Everything is an XBOX” refers to 2 things:
- Xbox on PC. No more dedicated hardware. As we’ve seen with the XBOX Ally, it’s just a Windows PC and Xbox is just a game mode.
- XBOX cloud gaming. Don’t have enough power to run your own XBOX PC? Stream games from a server.
I don’t really know why this isn’t very clear to everyone at this point.
I get it, I just don’t get why anybody that isn’t somehow still an Xbox fanboy would buy into that.
What value are they adding? Their streaming service is terrible. Maybe it made a little sense when game pass was impossibly cheap? Even then, it’s real money to not even pretend to own your games.
So why Xbox instead of getting pc games from your preferred store, and maybe remote play from some other service if that’s your thing. It’s as many hoops to jump through as normal pc gaming, so I don’t even see the convenience and simplicity excuse that normal consoles usually get.
I totally get the pushback on the “you will own nothing” but also a lot of times, I don’t want to. I spend $1500 on a new PC every ~5 years and spend a bunch of money on games I don’t play, and miss out on others that I don’t want to spend the money on. I almost never go back and play those games ever again, other than maybe the top 1%.
In theory I might explore an option like this, but in reality I have experimented with it and it’s completely unplayable.
Yeah, for all the criticisms of Microsoft, not understanding “everything is an Xbox” is not one I understand, it seemed pretty obvious to me. Though, I suppose we’re in the minority, as I’ve heard the “what the hecc does that mean” from everyone from normies to tech literate people. I don’t get it.
Not to mention the fact that they just effectively killed their own cloud gaming platform, which was the use case where this form factor made the most sense.
Reminds me a lot of the 8bitdo Lite 2, although that one is way more portable because it’s flat.
Me too. I couldn’t remember which one it was, and couldn’t find either (I mean I couldn’t find without reading your comment, here is the link): https://www.8bitdo.com/lite2/
It looks like an Xbox controller somebody stepped on.
I first scrolled by this and thought it was about Xanax but I don’t remember why.
i still can’t get my series x controller to work on pc, meanwhile every other controller works perfectly. they’re owned by the same company 😵💫
edit: it’s the Bluetooth that doesn’t work btw
Now that is weird. Every Xbox controller I’ve had since the 360 has worked immediately when plugged in to any computer I’ve had.
should’ve clarified Bluetooth doesn’t work, i even bought those fancy eneloop batteries. I’ve tried every fix i could find on every forum available. a $60 controller shouldn’t have these issues
There’s firmware update. The tool used to be on the ms store… and on xbox consoles.
I’d install a Win 10 VM and uptate it that way…
There’s firmware update
For which you need either an Xbox or a licensed repair shop.
I know from experience and am MUCH happier now that I have the slightly more expensive (except not overall since it hasn’t required any repairs since getting it over a year ago) but several times better Razer Wolverine V3 Pro!
Disclaimer: I am in no way affiliated with Razer except as a happy user of that specific product of theirs 😁
“what about razer?..”
Please. No such thing as a license to update xbox controler’s firmware.
I had issues until I updated firmware.
I had Bluetooth issues with my computer, usb adapters were not working to pair controllers. I did manage to fix it by installing motherboard’s driver manager, Gigabyte Control Center, and then installing their bluetooth drivers from there. So on the off chance you have a gigabyte motherboard that also has GCC, you might be able to try that to fix your bluetooth.
Not sure if the same solution would work for other motherboard vendors with their respective software, or if the problem I was having was limited to Gigabyte.
My sx controller got stick drift a month after getting it. I have to wiggle it like a mad man to get it to stop or my character in game will slowly move out of cover.
What I’m saying is, I’m not impressed with these controllers. Had better $30 controllers.
