Funny how a trillion dollar monopoly can’t keep a studio that makes very highly rated games alive.
Because at that level it has nothing to do with the actual studio or people. It’s just numbers on a spreadsheet to a team of accountants moving columns around so the final spreadsheet every 3 months looks as good as possible.
Normally without a sale like this, they would maintain IP rights to sell or use later by whatever studio they wanted to use. The studios are a tool to make the product, nothing more.
Normally a company struggling with console sales would lean into an IP that could sway consumers, even if the game itself didn’t make a ton of money.
Sony pumps money into big IPs to do the same, at the expense of game profits.

You’re assuming microsoft still cares about selling consoles… at this point either they gave up on this generation, or they moved on altogether.
What I don’t understand is what the point was in buying all of these expensive studios if they weren’t going to compete.
Well, that’s good. Though I have some concerns about how well Krafton is as a manager for such things. Also, didn’t a lot of the developers and other people in Tango already quit before this anyways and went to do other things or joined other studios?
Remember when the real value were the people building amazing games and not just the IP?
Larion studios/krafton inc remembers.
So, how long do I have to wait to buy Hi Fi Rush for it to benefit the new studio?
I’m pretty sure Microsoft still own hi fi rush. This’ll just be that the company with is Devs have been bought so they can continue working together
Edit: I just actually read it and saw that they did indeed but the ip too. That’s awesome.
I think MS gets a cut of Hi-Fi Rush 1 no matter what, which you should get and play because it’s awesome. Hi-Fi Rush 2 will be the one benefiting Krafton.
I played it on gamepass, but I’ve been thinking of getting it on steam, especially if the money would go to the new studio.
Neat.
Not a fan of Krafton but I’m glad this team gets to keep their jobs and hopefully they’re allowed to make a sequel.
