Just to satiate my curiosity I tried asking ChatGPT, and I gotta say, it tries really fucking hard not to give a recommendation.

From what I have seen when others use it, the ChatGPT app silently injects context from previous conversations, so it’s just going to tell users what they have already been talking about, e.g. what they want to hear.

It’s not that different than a social media algorithm, albeit a bit more isolated.

People were already just letting Fox and other propaganda networks tell them how to vote. I guess it was only a matter of time before they let AI tell them.

Not sure if this is worse or just the same in a different package.

I asked. It asked which state I’m from and what are my top 3 issues. I said I’m from Michigan and healthcare is too expensive. It replied that El-Sayed is explicitly pro Medicare for All. It asked what aspect about healthcare is too expensive. I said I don’t want to pay insurance. It replied that puts me straight into El-Sayed’s orbit.

I don’t think this would turn out as bad as people watching Fox News. Scam Altman doesn’t seem to have brainwashed GPT to say El-Sayed is communist antisemitic Hamas supporter.

A Senate race, especially a high profile one like El-Sayed’s, yeah, you’ll be fine.

A local race? Forget it. Hallucination city.

I hear what you’re saying and somewhat agree, but I really don’t like the idea of consolidating voting intelligence into corporate entities like this.

Even if it works fine today, it might not tomorrow. This is setting a very bad precedent for future generations.

And you can’t even say it’ll work great today. You just know that in your contrived example, it was honest. What if it’s dishonest with 5% of voters who seem more naive through statistics? That can completely throw off elections.

Oh I’m not happy about this at all. All I’m saying it they haven’t tuned it nearly as well in their interest as some or I expected. I do think as time goes by they’ll fix that problem.

That’s about what I remember last time. If I remember right, part of the issue arises when you’re a bit undecided, because there’s not a good reason to lie blatantly to someone who knows what they want (risking AIs reputation) but there is plenty reason to convince you you don’t need Medicare for all if you’re not already considering it.

People with dog shit for brains were never gonna vote the right way anyway. Instead of letting Fox News and Newsmax tell them to vote for Nazis, they’re gonna let ChatGPT tell them to vote for Nazis.

I don’t really see this moving the needle much

ChatGPT won’t make your gasoline or groceries any cheap cheaper.

I really wish I could agree with you, it’s just that I think there’s plenty of people with opinions I mostly agree with on the left that still have dog shit for brains. They also just get pressured into better opinions (for now). These are the people who are more easily converted from left to right and vice-versa, the ones who prioritize a candidate’s shallow charisma above everything, who the political ads and propaganda work on, the bulk of the swing state voters, the democrats who really entertained the idea that Trump might drain the swamp, et cetera. I wish we could ignore them, but we can’t. We have to accept that the bigger fight is made up of smaller fights which do matter. Otherwise it’s just coping and hoping. IMO.

It’s wild how so many people seem to have no idea what it’s like to even use LLMs, even for research. Kinda mind blowing how people just accept others opinions as their own. Reminds me of people that hated on tiktok without ever even trying it

You’re not really saying much to disprove my point

My only point is that it doesn’t seem very wise to only listen to dissenting opinions on things we want to learn about.

There’s nothing else to say, your analogy was a poor one and your response even worse. I commented on why some people had a bias from the get-go, a bias that turned out to be accurate in time, and your response was “I never said anything about <obviously relevant context>”. It perfectly displays the dismal attention span and self-centeredness that tiktok promotes and its users are known for. Other people can connect the dots in the context easily, I shouldn’t need to do it for you. I’m not here to disprove anything.

You got issues bro. Classic toxic reddit brain comment, as you might say

I would never defend what happened to reddit. It was obvious to many of us what would happen. You seem to think I use tiktok just because I think most of its haters understood it less than most of its users. You’d think redditors would know not to judge an entire “community” of users based on its most toxic users. Then again, maybe you’re legit the kind of toxic redditor people think of when they think of that site - you certainly come off that way.

Cheers dude, it was exhausting engaging with you
