I don’t know if I would call it spicy, been a long time since I had just celery though. But I am really sensitive to the taste of it.

Even if you chop it up small and cook it into something, for me it ruins a meal and gives it this horrible aftertaste. Probably best described as puke, that kinda acidic taste

I’m seconding what that other person said. You might have oral allergy syndrome.

Fun fact; that’s how I found out I have oral allergy syndrome. I asked a friend how so many people can ignore the way bananas burn like that and apparently, they don’t.

Celery is like the opposite of acid or burning or spice. It’s green and water.

My sole reason for wanting to try rhubarb pie is because of people who’ve had rhubarb saying how sour it is. I fucking love sour stuff, and celery. So hells yeah I want some rhubarb. I never see it around here though 😬

Its the leaves that have a lot of oxalic acid, the stems are edible raw, just utterly unpalateable. Although if you have a miracle berry first it is apparently delicious - https://youtu.be/hgvRoCY0hNA?t=10m26s

You mentioning eating the stems raw made me think of it and instantly increased my saliva production. It’s not easily palatable, it’s intense, you’re right, but man is it good. I grew up on that stuff. Cracking that raw stem and munching it while doing gardening is a stimmy miracle

Same shit people say about cucumbers and they all taste like bland ass. Literally worse than iced tap water.

      https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celery

Raw celery is 95% water, 3% carbohydrates, 0.7% protein, and contains negligible fat (table). A 100-gram (3+1⁄2-ounce) reference serving provides 16 calories of food energy, and is a rich source of vitamin K, providing 28% of the Daily Value, with no other micronutrients in significant content (table).

I “peel” celery like how I peel a potato. So basically peel off the stringy part. Then I cut them diagonally or at a 45° angle. I then stir fry them with carrots and string peas and baby corn and shallots with some garlic and salt.

It’s so crunchy and fresh tasting.

Celery loses most of it’s flavor quickly after harvest. When it’s actually fresh it’s extremely tasty.
